Terminology
Convention
When you see a phrase such as "Choose SomeMenu > SomeCommand, " it means to choose SomeCommand from the SomeMenu menu in the menu bar. For instance, Choose File > New means choose New from the File menu.Glossary
2D view, 2D window: Synonymous. A window can display its contents in either 2D or 3D. A window displaying a 2D view is sometimes referred to as a 2D window.
3D view, 3D window: Synonymous. A window can display its contents in either 3D or 3D. A window displaying a 3D view is sometimes referred to as a 3D window.
animation: movement of entels. They may move in the sense of translation (changing location), and/or move in the sense of arms and legs moving relative to the torso.
building pad: (See pad.)
DTM: Digital terrain model, or digital terrain modeling.
entel: An entourage element, which could take the form of a person, dog, tree, car, or a custom model supplied by and selected by the user. Entels may be animated.
foam core: A means of portraying terrain as if it consisted of layers of thin styrofoam. SketchUp can assist in the creation of terrain in this manner, and can export the resultant terrain as edges which SimuTerra can then utilize for creating a DTM.
pad: A surface which modifies a DTM, typically for the purpose of placing a building, parking lot, etc. This is represented by a closed poly whose purpose is set to Pad.
point: A data point, which may be used as data for a DTM. All points have a z value.
poly: A line, polyline, or polygon, which may be used as data for a DTM. Each vertex of a poly can have an independent z value, though usually polys are horizontal.
road: A road, path, etc. This is represented by an open poly whose purpose is set to Road.
