Camera Tools

None of these tools affect the data; they only affect camera parameters (location, direction, and view angle).

Orbit Tool

(Only in 3D views.) Dragging around will change the camera position, as if it were on the surface of an imaginary sphere. The camera will remain directed at the center of the sphere.

Zoom Tool

Drag up to zoom in, down to zoom out. In the 2D view the zooming will be centered around where you first pressed. In the 3D view the view angle will change, rather than the camera position. You may be better off using the Walk Tool in some circumstances, especially if you want to make a major change.

Pan Tool

Drag in any direction. This will be similar to scrolling in a 2D view, and similar to moving the camera sideways in a 3D view.

Walk Tool

(Only in 3D views.) This tool sets the camera moving. If you press and drag up, the camera starts to move forwards. As long as you keep the mouse button down, the camera keeps moving. The farther the mouse is from where you initially pressed, the faster the camera moves. If you move the mouse down past where you initally pressed, the camera will move backwards. Move left to move the camera left; right for right. The camera will move horizontally, even if it is looking somewhat up or down.

If you hold the Shift key down while the mouse button is down, then an upwards mouse movement will raise the camera (i.e. change its elevation), and a downwards movement will lower it.

Hold down the Option key (on the Macintosh) to accelerate the motion.

Turn Tool

(Only in 3D views.) Press an drag up to look upwards, drag down to look downwards. Drag left to turn left, and right to turn right.
