About Points
The purpose of a point is typically to serve as data for a DTM. Each point has independent x, y, and z values, sometimes referred to as Easting, Northing, and Elevation.
A point has various parameters which can be changed in the Info Panel.

Various parameters of a point are discussed on the page about objects.
A point can be set to be a modifier. This parameter only affects how a DTM is calculated, if the point is part of a DTM. If the point is not a modifier, then it affects how the Existing DTM is calculated; it is used as regular data. If the point is a modifier, and you are running SimuTerra Pro, then the point can modify the terrain if a Proposed DTM is calculated.
For instance, consider having three non-modifier points at elevation 0.0 forming a triangle, and you create a DTM from them, the result is a horizontal surface at elevation 0.0. If you add a higher point to the middle of the DTM, make it a modifier, and calculate the Proposed DTM, then you can see that a triangle-based pyramid is created.
A modifying point can influence the Proposed DTM outside of the original triangle (of the Existing DTM) which it falls within. For this to happen, the modifying point has to be surrounded by a collar. Collars are discussed on the page about polys.
